Where Telegram Premium and Stars Are Blocked: Country Guide (2026)
Last updated: April 2026. Telegram Premium and Telegram Stars are not available everywhere, and Telegram itself doesn't publish a clean list of where. The official FAQ says availability depends on "local laws and payment processors" — which is honest but useless if you're trying to figure out why the Buy button is missing from your Settings screen.
This guide consolidates what users in different countries actually report: who can buy, who can't, and why. The short version is that there's one country (Germany) where the product itself is systematically blocked, a cluster of countries where the payment rails break but the product works, and a long tail of "unsupported region" errors tied to account settings rather than country bans. For each of those situations, you can still buy and gift Stars or Premium with a crypto payment — that's not a workaround or a hack, it's just a different payment method that Telegram's own gift system accepts.
Two kinds of restriction (don't confuse them)
Almost every "Telegram Premium isn't working in my country" post online conflates two very different problems:
- Hard regional block — Telegram itself (or the payment processors it works with) refuses to sell Premium or Stars to accounts registered in that country. Germany is the clearest example. The product is off for everyone there.
- Payment rail break — Premium and Stars are available, but the buyer's card, bank, or App Store region won't go through. Russia is the clearest example: the product exists, Russian cards don't. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh often fall here too because of App Store/Google Play region mismatches.
The fix is different for each. A hard block means Telegram won't let a German-registered account pay — but it will accept a Premium or Stars gift sent to that same account from any wallet. A payment-rail break means the account is fine; the card just isn't. Crypto payment handles both, because it doesn't go through Apple, Google, or local banks at all.
Country-by-country summary
Everything in this table is based on user reports through April 2026. It can and will change.
| Country / region | Premium | Stars | Root cause |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | Blocked for DE accounts | Blocked (buying and spending) | Hard regional block at Telegram/processor level. The only confirmed consistent Premium+Stars block. |
| Russia | Available, cards rejected | Available, cards rejected | Payment rail break. RU cards don't pass Apple/Google/@PremiumBot's processors. |
| Iran | Partial — receive works, buy is limited; Premium status display broken for IR numbers per bug tracker reports | "Unsupported region" in Wallet is common | Combination of state-level Telegram blocks and account-level feature limits. We do not market directly to Iranian users; we simply note status here as neutral fact. |
| India, Pakistan, Bangladesh | Available, but payment often rejected | Available, but payment often rejected | App Store / Google Play region mismatches with cards issued in a different country. |
| Australia | Reported spotty by some users | Generally works | Looks like a rollout quirk rather than a block. Usually resolves itself. |
| EU (other than Germany) | Works for most | Works for most | No systemic block reported. Individual issues tied to cards, not countries. |
| US, UK, Canada | Works | Works | No block. |
| "Unsupported region" error (global) | Account-specific | Account-specific | Usually Telegram Wallet or payment-method-specific, not whole-country. See the dedicated troubleshooter. |
Germany: the only hard block
Germany is the outlier. User reports on Reddit and a Telegram bug-tracker ticket agree that both Premium and Stars are unavailable to German-registered accounts. The Settings screen shows no purchase option, @PremiumBot returns a "not available in your country" message, and channel owners using Stars for monetization report that German followers can't pay.
Users sometimes report temporary success by swapping their phone number to a foreign SIM, but the block tends to reassert itself. The clean fix is to avoid the Apple/Google/@PremiumBot layer entirely: pay in crypto, keep your German number, and accept delivery on the same account. Full walkthrough in the Germany guide.
Russia: product works, cards don't
Russia is a payment-rail break, not a product ban. Premium and Stars exist on Russian accounts; the buying side is broken. Tinkoff, Sber, and other RU cards are declined by Apple, Google Play, and Stripe (which is what @PremiumBot uses). Users have tried Kazakh App Store regions, resale channels (frequent scam risk), and asking friends abroad.
A clean crypto path exists. USDT is available on exchanges that still serve Russian users (Bybit, OKX, and others), and TON is available on several of those too. Once you have either, buying Stars or Premium is a single on-chain payment. Our full guide, including a Russian-language FAQ, is at how to buy Telegram Stars and Premium from Russia.
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh: region mismatch, not country ban
In most of South Asia the product is fully available. The problem is that Google Play or Apple ID is often set to one country while the user's only international-capable card is tied to another. The @PremiumBot Stripe integration often rejects cards that don't match the profile country, and Stars top-ups via in-app purchase fail for the same reason.
Crypto skips that mismatch entirely. Pay in USDT on the TON network from any exchange that serves you (WazirX, Binance, OKX), and the buyer's App Store region becomes irrelevant. The same applies to a handful of other countries with similar App Store region quirks — Nigeria, Egypt, and parts of Southeast Asia have reported the same pattern.
Iran: neutral, factual note
Iran has two separate problems stacked on each other: intermittent state-level blocks of Telegram itself at the ISP layer, and a few account-level feature limits for accounts registered to Iranian phone numbers (reports of Premium status display not rendering, and "unsupported region" errors in Telegram Wallet). This guide notes Iran for completeness. We do not market our service to Iranian users specifically, and we do not claim to help with any sanctioned transaction.
"Unsupported region" errors in general
The phrase "unsupported region" shows up across many countries and usually does not mean your whole country is banned. It's more often one of: Telegram Wallet not being enabled on your account, a VPN flipping your IP mid-request, a payment method that's regionally restricted even though Telegram itself isn't, or a bot- or channel-specific region filter. We wrote a full decoder at how to fix the Telegram unsupported region error.
What actually works: pay the standard gift price in crypto
All four of the restriction patterns above — hard block, rail break, region mismatch, account quirk — share one escape hatch: Telegram's own gift system lets any wallet pay for Stars or Premium on any valid public username, regardless of the recipient's country. That's not a loophole. It's documented behavior; we just use it as our payment path.
The flow is identical to our standard TON purchase walkthrough:
- Open the site or the Mini App.
- Pick Stars (any amount from 50 up) or Premium (3, 6, or 12 months — 12-month is the best per-month price).
- Type the recipient's Telegram username. It can be your own —
@yourselfworks. The username check happens before you pay. - Choose TON or USDT. Both sit on the TON network. If you don't know which to pick, our TON vs USDT comparison covers the tradeoffs. Short version: TON is cheaper, USDT is predictable.
- Pay from a TON Connect wallet (Tonkeeper, MyTonWallet) or copy the address and pay manually from any wallet.
- Wait. Delivery is typically under 30 seconds after the on-chain confirmation.
If a payment can't be completed as expected, funds are returned to the sending wallet on-chain, minus a small network fee. No support ticket required.
Honest caveats
- We don't unblock Telegram. If Telegram's app doesn't open in your country because of ISP-level filtering, that's upstream of us. You still need working connectivity to see Stars or Premium on your account after we deliver.
- We don't circumvent sanctions. We don't serve OFAC-designated persons, and we don't help route money off sanctioned banks. We sell a Telegram gift, not a sanctions workaround.
- We can't promise Telegram's policy stays the same. If Telegram decides tomorrow that gifts to German accounts are blocked at the API level, we'll say so clearly instead of pretending it still works. The table above is a snapshot.
- Crypto prices move. TON's USD price fluctuates; USDT holds a dollar peg but moves against your local currency. We show the total in your chosen currency before you pay — no surprise conversion.
- A TON wallet is pseudonymous, not anonymous. We don't ask for KYC, but on-chain transactions are public.
- A small fraction of recipient accounts can't receive gifts (brand-new, deactivated, bot accounts). Our pre-flight username check catches most of these before charging. Anything that slips through triggers auto-reversal.

Telegram's regional availability is messy and changes quietly. If you hit a new block not listed here, or if your country's status has flipped since April 2026, the simplest test is still the same: open Settings, look for the Premium option, and try @PremiumBot. If both are missing or refuse your card, a crypto payment is the route that doesn't care which country your SIM comes from.
