Buy Telegram Stars from China: What Works, What Doesn't (2026)
Telegram is blocked in mainland China by the Great Firewall — and has been since 2015. Chinese App Store and Google Play don't carry Telegram. The in-app Stars purchase flow and @PremiumBot are both unreachable from a Chinese IP without a VPN. So the question "how to buy Telegram Stars from China" usually lands on our site from users who already have Telegram access (via VPN, roaming, or travel) and are looking for a way to pay that doesn't involve an App Store account or a foreign card.
This article covers what the payment landscape actually looks like for Chinese Telegram users as of April 2026 and why USDT on the TON network ends up being the cleanest route for people who already hold crypto. For the broader country-by-country picture, see our Telegram restrictions guide.
What's actually broken (and what isn't)
China is unlike Germany or Russia in that the block starts one layer earlier: Telegram itself is the thing that's restricted at the network level. That has a few concrete consequences for buying Stars or Premium:
- No Chinese App Store version of Telegram. Apple pulled Telegram from the China App Store in 2017; Google Play doesn't operate in mainland China at all. The standard in-app Stars purchase path isn't there to begin with.
@PremiumBotis unreachable without Telegram. If you can't open Telegram from your network, you can't send a message to a bot inside it. A VPN or network workaround is a prerequisite for any in-app flow.- Chinese bank cards and Alipay/WeChat Pay don't pay for Telegram products. Even if you somehow reach the Stripe or Apple payment sheet, a CUP card or a mainland-issued Visa is almost always declined.
- "Unsupported region" errors in Telegram Wallet. Users who open Telegram from mainland IPs often see the generic "unsupported region" error on the Wallet tab, even when Telegram itself is loading fine through a VPN.
What is possible: receiving. Telegram's gift system accepts Stars and Premium on any valid public username, and the Telegram app on the recipient's side will show the balance, the Premium crown, and the features regardless of which country the account was originally registered in. That's the seam we use.
The VPN reality (neutral, factual)
Basically every Chinese Telegram user reaches the app through a VPN. That's not something we recommend or sell — it's just the observed reality of how Telegram works in mainland China. A few things worth stating plainly:
- We do not sell, endorse, or link to VPN services. Our service is a payment processor. If you can already open Telegram, we can deliver Stars or Premium to a username; if you can't, no payment method fixes that.
- We do not claim to "bypass the Great Firewall." Nothing we do changes Telegram's network reachability in your country. Our side is purely the on-chain payment and Fragment-side delivery.
- Our payment flow doesn't require Telegram Wallet or
@PremiumBot. You can complete the entire purchase from our web site using a TON wallet app (Tonkeeper, MyTonWallet) and a browser — so if you can reachmystars.tgat all, the purchase itself doesn't add any new network dependency beyond what you already have.
Why USDT on TON ends up being the default for Chinese users
Chinese crypto users generally hold USDT. Despite the 2021 ban on all cryptocurrency business activity in mainland China and subsequent enforcement actions around USDT used for cross-border forex, Tether remains the most widely held stablecoin in Chinese-speaking crypto communities, and a growing share of that USDT already sits on the TON network — partly because of the rise of Tonkeeper and on-chain Telegram-adjacent activity in 2024–2026.
If you already hold USDT on TON, our flow is the lowest-friction route:
- Open
mystars.tg(either the web site or the Telegram Mini App, whichever you can reach). - Pick Stars (50 minimum, no upper cap) or Premium (3, 6, or 12 months — 12-month is the best per-month rate).
- Enter a Telegram username. Can be your own, a friend's, a family member's. We run a Telegram API check and show the matching profile before you confirm.
- Choose USDT-TON (one small fee baked into the displayed total) or TON (no platform fees beyond a small TON network gas fee). If you're unsure, TON vs USDT breaks down the tradeoffs.
- Pay via TON Connect (Tonkeeper, MyTonWallet) or copy the address and memo and send from any wallet.
- Wait. TON confirms in 3–5 seconds; delivery is typically under 30 seconds after the on-chain confirm.
The biggest user error we see on this route is wrong-chain transfers. We only accept USDT on the TON network — not USDT-TRC20 (Tron) and not USDT-ERC20 (Ethereum). When you withdraw from Binance, OKX, or Bybit, you must explicitly select "TON" as the network on the withdrawal screen. Funds sent on the wrong chain don't reach us and can't be recovered.
A worked example
Imagine a graphic designer in Shanghai who already uses Telegram daily (via a VPN that's been stable for two years) and holds about 200 USDT-TON in Tonkeeper from a previous airdrop. She wants to gift 12 months of Premium to a college friend in Chengdu for a birthday. Her friend has a Telegram account registered to a mainland Chinese number and uses the app through the same kind of VPN setup.
- She opens
mystars.tg/premiumin her regular browser, picks the 12-month plan, and types her friend's public username. - The pre-flight check confirms the account exists and shows the profile so there's no typo.
- She selects USDT payment, sees the total in USDT, scans the TON Connect QR code with Tonkeeper, and signs.
- Confirmation on-chain in a few seconds; the friend's Telegram gets the standard Premium activation notice well under a minute later.
Neither person set up an App Store account, neither paid with a Chinese bank card, neither used @PremiumBot. The only "China-specific" step was that both parties were reading Telegram over their existing VPN, which is a given for anyone using Telegram in mainland China.
Honest limits for users in mainland China
- We are not a Chinese entity. MyStars.tg does not operate a business inside mainland China, does not custody user funds in yuan, and does not offer any on-/off-ramp between crypto and CNY. Your crypto holdings and their legal status in your jurisdiction are your responsibility — China has had a blanket ban on domestic crypto-services operations since September 2021, and more recent enforcement actions specifically target USDT used in cross-border exchange with yuan. We do not provide legal advice.
- We don't "unblock" Telegram. If your Telegram app can't connect today, our service can't help with that. Network reachability is upstream of the payment layer.
- We don't promise availability will stay the same. Telegram's policy, Fragment's policy, Chinese enforcement posture, and exchange availability can all change. This article reflects the state as of April 2026.
- A TON wallet is pseudonymous, not anonymous. We don't ask for ID or email. On-chain activity is public and analyzable by anyone — do not assume the transaction is invisible.
- A small number of Telegram accounts cannot receive gifts (bots, deactivated accounts, brand-new accounts). Our pre-flight check rejects most of these before you pay; anything that slips through triggers auto-reversal to the sending wallet.
What about seeing "unsupported region" in Telegram Wallet?
A lot of mainland users hit the generic "Telegram Wallet unsupported region" message on the in-app Wallet tab, even when Telegram itself is loading fine through their VPN. That error is specifically about the in-app Telegram Wallet feature being geo-gated — it's not the same as the Stars or Premium purchase block. Our flow doesn't use Telegram Wallet at all, so that error doesn't apply to our payment path. Full breakdown in "unsupported region" error fix.
What we won't do
We will not tell you how to circumvent the Great Firewall, we won't recommend a VPN provider, and we won't frame ourselves as a censorship-circumvention tool. We're a crypto payment processor for a standard Telegram product. If the Telegram app works on your device, Stars and Premium can be delivered to your username — the same way they'd be delivered to a user in Berlin, Bogotá, or Bangalore. That's the whole claim.
中文常见问题 (FAQ 简体中文)
我在中国怎么买 Telegram Stars?
前提是你能打开 Telegram(绝大多数大陆用户通过 VPN 访问)。
Telegram Premium
