How to Buy Telegram Premium with Crypto (TON or USDT) — and Gift It to Anyone

MyStars.tg Team7 min read

A friend of mine spent two hours last week trying to buy Telegram Premium for her mum. Her mum lives in a country where Telegram's in-app payment doesn't accept local cards, the App Store gift-card workaround needed a US payment method to top up, and the few existing crypto routes asked for a wallet she didn't have. By the end of it she texted me: "this is genuinely harder than it should be."

That's the gap we're closing today. We've added Telegram Premium to MyStars.tg — same flow we already use for buying Stars, same crypto rails, same lack of KYC. Pay with TON or USDT, type in a Telegram username, and Premium shows up on that account in about half a minute.

What's actually new

Up until now MyStars.tg only sold Stars. Premium was the obvious next ask — we kept getting messages from people who couldn't pay Telegram directly because their card got declined, their region was unsupported, or they wanted to give Premium as a gift without the awkwardness of asking the recipient to install a wallet.

Three plans, priced in crypto:

PlanUSDPer monthTONUSDT
3 months$13.77$4.59/mo10.02 TON13.77 USDT
6 months (popular)$18.38$3.06/mo13.36 TON18.38 USDT
12 months (best value)$33.34$2.78/mo24.24 TON33.34 USDT

Prices float a little — they're tied to live market rates, so the exact number on the page might shift by a few cents between when you load it and when you pay. Nothing dramatic, but the per-month figure on the 12-month plan is what makes most people pick it.

The actual flow, in 30 seconds

Open mystars.tg/premium. You'll see three plans on the left and a sticky price summary on the right. From there:

  1. Pick a duration (3, 6, or 12 months).
  2. Pick TON or USDT as your payment method. (We'll come back to which one to use.)
  3. Click Buy Premium. A modal opens.
  4. Type the recipient's Telegram username — your own (@you) or someone else's. We hit the Telegram API in the background to confirm the username is real and show you the matching profile so you don't accidentally send it to a typo.
  5. Either click Connect Wallet to pay through TON Connect (Tonkeeper, MyTonWallet, etc.) or copy the address + memo and pay manually from any wallet.
  6. Wait. The Premium star icon appears next to the recipient's name in Telegram, usually before you've finished closing the tab.

That's it. No account on our side, no email, no captcha. The same flow people already use for Stars, just with a Crown icon instead of a Star.

Gifting is the killer feature

Honestly, this is the part that surprised us most during testing. You'd think the main use case would be people buying Premium for themselves to dodge regional pricing — and that's a chunk of it — but the gifting flow is what people kept coming back to.

A few real examples from beta users:

  • A developer in Berlin sent 12 months to his sister in Tehran. She got the activation message 18 seconds after he hit pay. He didn't have to walk her through anything.
  • A creator with a paid channel sent 3 months to her top supporter as a thank-you. The supporter had no idea it was coming.
  • A team lead bulk-bought 6-month subscriptions for everyone on his small remote team. Three TON transactions, three usernames, done in under five minutes.

The thing that makes this work is that the recipient doesn't need a wallet, an account on our site, or even to know we exist. Premium just shows up on their Telegram. The activation experience on their side is identical to the standard Telegram Premium gift flow.

TON or USDT — which one should you actually use?

Short version: TON if you already hold any, USDT if you want the dollar number to be the dollar number.

TON is the cheaper option. There are no platform fees on our side — you pay the listed TON amount plus the standard TON network gas fee that any TON wallet charges (a few cents), and that's it. Premium activates and you're done.

USDT carries a small processing fee that's already baked into the displayed total — there's no surprise charge at the end. If you want a deeper read on the TON vs USDT trade-off, we covered it in TON vs USDT for Telegram Stars; the same logic applies to Premium.

What about region locks and KYC?

Neither apply. We don't ask for an ID, a phone number, or a country. The crypto wallet is the only "identity" involved, and it isn't tied to any documents you've filed somewhere. People paying from places where Telegram Premium isn't sold through the App Store at all (or where local cards are blocked from the in-app purchase) get the same flow as everyone else.

One small honest caveat: the recipient still needs to be on a Telegram account that can receive Premium gifts. In practice that's basically every account — but a tiny fraction (mostly bot or self-deleted accounts) won't accept gifts, and our system will reject those before charging you. If you do get charged and delivery still fails, you get an automatic refund — not a stuck transaction.

What if something goes wrong?

Same protection we built for Stars purchases, ported over to Premium. If something goes wrong with a payment — whether the transaction didn't match what we expected or the gift couldn't be delivered — funds are returned to the sending wallet on-chain automatically.

You don't need to email us, file a ticket, or "wait 3-5 business days." It's all on-chain and it all happens inside a couple of minutes.

Things people get wrong

A few patterns we've seen in beta. Save yourself the hassle:

  • Typo in the username — easy to do with @-handles. The verification step in the modal exists specifically to catch this; if the matching profile isn't who you meant, fix it before paying. Once the on-chain transaction goes through, we send Premium to whoever Telegram says owns that username.
  • Sending USDT on the wrong chain — only USDT on the TON network works. USDT on Ethereum, BSC, or Tron will be lost. Our payment instructions show the chain explicitly; double-check before confirming in your wallet.
  • Trimming the leading zero — some wallets display "0.5 TON" as ".5 TON" and people occasionally retype it without the zero. The on-chain amount is fine if you copy/paste the displayed number directly; just don't manually retype short decimals.
  • Closing the page too early — the modal is just a UI. Even if you close it, the on-chain payment still triggers fulfillment in the background. But it's nicer to leave it open until you see the success screen, so you actually know it worked.

Why we built it

The honest reason: Stars and Premium are basically the same problem. Both are paid features inside Telegram, both are gated by payment rails that don't reach a chunk of the world. We'd already built the payment + delivery layer for Stars — wallet handling, the auto-reversal logic, the username verification — so adding Premium to the catalog was a few weeks of frontend work and one more product type in the database.

If you've used MyStars.tg for Stars, the Premium flow will feel identical. If you haven't, this might be a softer entry point — Premium is a more legible product to most people than "in-app currency for tipping."

FAQ

Can I gift Premium to someone else?

Yes — that's the main use case. Type their Telegram username at checkout. The subscription activates directly on their account.

Do I need a Telegram account to buy?

No. You don't need to log in, sign up, or install Telegram on the device you're paying from. You only need a TON-compatible crypto wallet.

How fast does Premium activate?

Usually under 30 seconds after the on-chain payment confirms. TON itself confirms in 3-5 seconds; the rest is the time it takes for Premium to land on the recipient's account.

Why is your price different from Telegram's in-app price?

Apple and Google take a 30% cut on in-app purchases, so Telegram's mobile prices include that overhead. Our crypto pricing doesn't carry that cost, which is mainly why the longer plans look cheaper than buying through the app.

What if the payment fails?

Auto-reversal. Funds are returned to the sending wallet on-chain, no support ticket needed. Same protection as our Stars purchases.

Will the recipient know it was me?

No. The gift arrives with no sender metadata. If you want them to know, message them.

Which is cheaper, TON or USDT?

TON. There are no platform fees on the TON path. USDT carries a small processing fee that's already included in the displayed total — worth it if you want predictable dollar pricing and don't want to track TON's price.
